Trinidad and Tobago INCINERATOR.Q&A

Question: Brick and refractories to withstand 1700°C (3092°F)

Our std. high density castable refractory material is rated for 3000°F (1649°C).  There is 3100°F material available but is considerably more expensive and labour intensive to work with. The point is why?  The incinerator will never exceed 2200°F (actually 2000°F), so what is the value?

TRHA Response: We have experienced temperature spikes in the past due primarily to lack of waste management at the various patient-care facilities and wish to have a machine that can handle flammables, aerosols etc.

Question: Surface temperature of the external wall shall not exceed 80°C (176°F).

This would most likely require dual casing.  However, they do not specify what normal operating combustion chamber temperature must be.

TRHA ResponseCurrent operating temperatures are rated at 1000°C in the primary chamber and 1500°C in the secondary chamber.

Question: “The burner configuration shall be designed to burn a minimum of 150 kg waste per cycle cycle.” What is to be considered a cycle, per hour, per day, ??? (assume this to mean per hour).

TRHA Response: A cycle is how much time the machine would take under normal operating conditions to destroy 150kg of waste. This time is to be specified by the supplier.

Question: How many hours per day will the system be operated?

TRHA Response: The plan is to run for a minimum 16 hours with an 8 hour cool-down period.

Question Wet scrubber:

What performance specifications are to be met? It appears all they are suggesting is an acid gas scrubber.

TRHA Response: Acid-gas and ceramic scrubbers appear to be standard.

Questions Emissions monitoring:  What emissions parameters are to be monitored?

Response parameters:

Testing Parameters  – Stack Emission

Particulate Matter

Volatile Organic Compounds

Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)

Dioxins and Furans

Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx)

Lead (Pb) and its compounds

Ozone

Antimony (Sb) and its compounds

 Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Arsenic (As) and its compound

Fluorine (F) and its compounds

Cadmium (Cd) and its compounds

Acids and acid gases such as hydrogen chloride (HCl)

Mercury (Hg) and its compounds

Chlorine (Cl) and its compounds

Heavy Metals (other)

Hydrogen Sulphide

For the ambient air quality testing, the following parameters shall be measured:

Testing Parameters – Ambient Air Quality

Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)

PM10

Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)

PM2.5

Ozone

Question: Incinerator operation designed with the least of zero human intervention with the waste?  Is a normal ram loader considered to meet this intent?

TRHA Response- This option will be considered. All options submitted would be considered and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Question “All metals used on construction of the incinerator and its attachments must be Stainless Steel 316 grade”

It can be done but would increase the cost of the system exponentially.

TRHA Response- Boiler quality material or some combination thereof will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Question 480V, 3 ph, 60Hz??  (This would be great, but do they have this power actually available?)

TRHA Response: As discussed during the site visit, the TRHA will provide this power to a panel at the site. The contractor is responsible for connections between this panel and the machine.
